Street Furniture Data Collection

Maribyrnong City Council

Building a street furniture asset register

Council had limited data relating to its street furniture assets and engaged us* to collect data for their asset register.

Over 4,090 unique assets were identified, mapped, and recorded, including public seating, fences, sculptures, landscaping items and waste bins. We also captured Tactile Ground Surface Indicators which included location, condition and compliance against AS/NZS 1428.4.1:2009.

All assets were mapped using the Konect mobile platform. Attribute information such as type, material and condition was recorded and digital images were captured for each asset. We also provided advice and guidance relating to data structure and attribute definitions. The project was completed in a short turnaround time to meet Council’s requirements.

Additionally, we collected 1,260 maintenance defects, which Council is able to use for planning maintenance work to improve the safety and functionality of its street furniture.

Council now has a complete and accurate register of its street furniture assets that can be used for long term planning and reporting.
